Humantay lake full day

The Humantay lake full day is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Cusco. It is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of Cusco made up of mountains and high-altitude snow-capped peaks.

The Humantay lake and its turquoise waters crowned by the imposing snow-capped peak of the same name. At present, the inhabitants of the Cusco region are considered a god for him.

Its fame is mainly due to its turquoise waters adorned by the white snows of the snow-capped Humantay. There are two ways to visit this one by taking a day tour or through the Salkantay trek (5-day hike to Machu Picchu) you have the opportunity to visit this lake.

The weather in Soraypampa, where the Humantay lagoon is located, is cold. It varies from 10ºC. (50ºF). at 0ºC. (32ºF). Due to the presence of snow-capped mountains and the high-altitude location, we must also consider that we have two dry seasons without the presence of rain and the rainy season.

The walk is done from the town of Soraypampa on the way up, the section is 2 kilometers long, which usually takes 2 hours, only the ascent of course, this can vary according to the physical condition of the visitor. The descent usually takes 1 hour and a half to the parking in total walk 4 kilometers. In general, the visitor has symptoms of altitude sickness when being in the lagoon and as we descend, this disappears.

Overview

Humantay Lake is Located in the Mollepata district, at an altitude (4,200 m), a challenging walk due to the lack of oxygen at altitude. Nothing difficult as long as you follow the advice of your private guide, who will accompany you all the time. We also recommend you spend at least 3 days in Cusco to acclimatize a bit. You’ll walk over 12,632 feet (3,850 m) and a total length of about 3.8 miles (6 kilometers) in about 4 hours round trip. The highest point is 4250m (14000ft). This hike is difficult due to the altitude and the slope.
